Crystal Spring Biology Experiment

Crystal Spring Experiment

In 2019, Windermere Preparatory School prepared a “field trip” day for the 7th-grade students, and the students were experimenting the pH scale of the water.

The experiment’s process was to test the pH scale in the lake of Crystal Spring. After testing, the students needed to figure out whether the scale was appropriate for the biodiversity of the lake. Soon, the students figured out that the element “Phosphorus" caused the increase in algae in the lake, which caused the dissolved oxygen to be less. The less dissolved oxygen can further determine whether the lake is a good environment for the species or not.

The students in this experiment mainly learned and experienced how to appropriately test the pH scale of the water. After, the students experienced how the pH scale affected marine resources and biodiversity. Then, the students learned how the different elements caused the scale of pH levels.
